Health Fee Information
Primary Care Health Fee
The $150 Primary Care Health Fee (PCHF) is one of the most valuable resources available to UofL students. For just $150 per semester, you gain access to a comprehensive range of on-campus health services - no copays, no insurance required, no hassle. All students enrolled in at least 6.5 on-campus credit hours are automatically enrolled in this fee, and it begins working for you from day one.
What's Included
The PCHF covers an extensive range of services at Campus Health facilities at Cardinal Station and the Health Science Center Health Care Outpatient Center:
- General checkups, well visits, and sick visits
- ADHD management
- Vaccinations
- Allergy shots
- Gynecology services, including contraceptive implants
- Sexually transmitted illness screenings
- Travel medication
- Psychiatric services
- Specialist referrals and coordination of care with off-site specialists
- Student health insurance, billing, and advocacy services
- And so much more!
The PCHF Is a Smart Choice - Even If You Have Insurance
If you already have health insurance, the PCHF works alongside it. Campus Health will bill your insurance first, and any remaining balance for covered services is written off, which may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs. For many insured students, keeping the fee is the financially savvy move.
Please note: The PCHF is not health insurance and does not replace a comprehensive health plan.
For more information about the PCHF, email stuins@louisville.edu or call 502-852-6519.
Waive the Primary Care Health Fee
The PCHF waiver is available to students who carry qualifying health insurance, but before you waive, it's worth pausing to consider what you'd be giving up. At just $150 per semester, the fee covers unlimited office visits, mental health and psychiatric services, gynecological care, ADHD management, STI screenings, and much more. If you plan to use Campus Health at all during the semester, the fee will likely pay for itself quickly.
Waiver Eligibility & Requirements
- Allowed with proof of qualifying health insurance
- Electronically verified and reviewed by the Program Director
- Required for each academic year - you must resubmit every fall
- The waiver cannot be submitted until the charge appears on your tuition bill
- Tuition bills are posted the first week of July for Fall semester and mid-November for Spring semester

Health Professional Health Fee
$52.50 Mandatory Health Fee
The Mandatory Health Fee is a required fee for students enrolled at the Health Sciences Center campus, including the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Upper Level Dental Hygiene, Upper Division Nursing, APRN, Speech Pathology, Audiology, and Public Health and Information. It is specifically designed to meet the unique health needs of students in the healthcare professions.
At just $52.50, this fee functions as a discount program that significantly reduces your out-of-pocket costs for essential health services. Here's how it works: Campus Health bills your major medical insurance first. Once your insurance pays, the Mandatory Health Fee discount is applied to specific charges, lowering what you owe.
Please note: The Mandatory Health Fee is not health insurance and does not meet health insurance requirements. It does not provide hospitalization or coverage for tests and services beyond those listed below. Students without major medical coverage are strongly encouraged to purchase the university-sponsored medical insurance plan.
What's Covered
- Unlimited medical office visits
- Gynecological exams (lab or x-ray costs are the patient's responsibility)
- Flu shots
- Annual surveillance TB skin testing
- Post-exposure evaluation and testing for tuberculosis
- Post-exposure evaluation, testing, and prophylactic medications for exposures to blood-borne pathogens, including HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C
- Confidential access to a counselor on the HSC campus
- Confidential psychiatric consultation
